Microsoft announced that it would add Linux-like container technology to a future version of Windows. Today, the company revealed that it’s also developing a super-slim version of Windows that will run what it describes as a new kind of container—one that provides an added level of security. The OS is called Windows Server Nano.
Microsoft spokesman Mike Schutz, the company is building a way of wrapping containers in its Hyper-V “virtualization” technology, so that they’re completely isolated from each other. But the real news seems to be that Microsoft will offer a stripped-down operating system along the lines of CoreOS, a Linux operating system that’s particularly suited to running containers across a large number of computers.

In a sign of how far Amazon has to go before its vision for its drone-delivery service is realized, the company’s drones for now will have to be operated by a pilot with a certificate to fly a private manned aircraft. Sony posted a net loss of over $1 billion for its 2013-2014 financial year, which ended in March, the Japanese electronic giant still forecasted 50 million mobile phones would be sold from April 2014 to March 2015. In September, Sony decided to adjust that forecast by lowering the target by 7 million. Now, it appears Sony will reduce its handset sales forecast.
Even though the publication did not give specific numbers, it reports that Sony will reduce its forecast by several million units. In addition, it could be intent on reducing its presence in emerging markets, specifically in China, so entry-level handsets in these markets could see the boot. The rationale given was that, for Sony, it has been an uphill battle trying to challenge cheaper handsets from Chinese manufacturers, such as Xiaomi, which took over the top spot in the Chinese market.
